Im so happy, the big music store near me just became an authorized Mesa Boogie dealer and they said they'd call me when the new amps come in.
Ask me anything. I know what the better beginner guitars are if anyone wants to start.
Oh, and used gear RULES over new gear. The money you save, and the better quality of shit you get it much better when you go used. |

Well joe,
The gear you have isnt bad for what it is. The Ibanez has a mahogany body which is kinda rare for the lower end ibanez's and that sounds better than the usual "basswood" that ibanez uses on almost all of their RG's.
The amp isnt the worst you could have gotten, but for the price you probably could have done better.
My advice, if you want your guitar to sound 1000x better, than you should replace the no-name humbucker thats in the bridge to a better one. If will cost you about $90 or so if you get something like a Seymour Duncan put in. But which Seymour Duncan to choose is up to you. The custom 5 is the one I plan on puttin in my les paul and it has good cleans and nice distortion. |

Jerry,
The first electric solid body guitar was made by a Guy named Seymour Duncan (who has a pickup compant now).
It is now called a Telecaster and its design is owned by fender. |

Not even Squires are good enough for shitty punk songs.
You could find a truck load of used guitars that sound better, have better quality ect.
For around $200 you could get an "OLP" "M2" (i think thats the model name). Its a Musicman "axis" copy basicly, and they are nice for the price. |

Your best bet is probably a:
Boss, Metal Zone (MT-2)
They sound brutal, and a little like a buzzsaw.

Um neon, technically speaking that wasn't the first guitar. The first guitar, built sometime in the 16th century, was a subtle variation of the spanish instrument the vihuela, which closely resembled an 8 string bass guitar. And, the first electric guitar was built by a man named Lloyd Loar who worked for gibson in 1921 and that guitar was an archtop, not a tele. This guitar evolved into the mass produced Gibson L-5.

Actually the first fender solid body was called the "Esquire" and the broadcaster came after.
I have heard so many different storys even from reliable people and from reading, but I have heard that Seymour Duncan had a big part in making the guitar (the pickups). |

A mini amp would be cool to have on you... How do you power this thing up 4 times 12v you said ? rechargeable batteries ? How long can you play with it ?
And : "Oh, and used gear RULES over new gear. The money you save, and the better quality of shit you get it much better when you go used."
Is it nearly always the case ? Won't you frequently have bad surprises ?

I dont know if the Smokey brand mini amp has a power source jack so you dont need batterys, but it does use one 9v.
Hopefully it can be plugged in, batterys suck.
About the used gear, when I search for used gear to buy I ALWAYS play the guitars because so many things can go wrong (twisted neck/dead spots on the neck/blah blah blah) But I'd have to say overall buying used is the thing to do if you can.
Used amps can also have issues, the transformers can end up crapping out, the tubes could be totally burned out, solid state amps are a little bit safer to buy used because they dont have so many delicate parts that fuck up.
You know, even new guitars can have problems. Sometimes they come from the factory with shitty fret work thats sharp and all that. |

It does high gain sounds, lots of brutal distortion.
And if you change the humbucker in the bridge your guitar will sound 1000x better I fucking swear. |

I hesitated between the turbo distortion II and the metal zone (the mega dist was very new at the time), and opted for the first, even though I heard the metal zone was real good, but still too metal no ? Now I also have a Digitech RP-200, not very solid but the effects aren't bad. You're more of a Boss man neon ? What do you think about "less known brands" ? Like Dod, or that milkshake thing... |

Well I dont really use distortion pedals because Im gonna use my new amps built in tube distortion when i get it, but I would say stay away from the cheaper brands, the lower you go the more buzzy and sterile the sound gets.
Fender tube amps are known for being used with distortion pedals, but thats because they are made to be mostly clean amps.
I dont think I would buy another Boss pedal, there is always better stuff and brands that put way more into their pedals. There are some smaller companys that makes the best pedals but they are like over $130 or so most of the time.
The best pedal distortion set up would probably be a Mesa tube distortion pedal ($269 I think) and a good EQ pedal (bout $85) through a fender tube amp that has a nice clean. |
