GUTTERMOUTH
June 19, 2001 site: Epitaph Records
Guttermouth. oh boy, isn't this guy a hoot? His suave personality, wit, intelligence, and nicely proportioned legs rule my world. *gag*
DD(T):Who’s who and what do you do? Steve: I’m the Captain and I play bass. That’s Scoot, he’s playing video games. And Mark should be here shortly, he’s the ballerina. DD(T): So how’s the Canadian tour going so far? Steve: Pretty crappy. Awful. Sorry to say, just horrible across the board. DD(T): So you guys still not allowed in Saskatoon? Steve: No. We’re allowed, we just choose not to go there ‘cause it’s terrible. Actually, we should have gone there ‘cause the whole tour has been terrible. DD(E): Why has it been so bad? Steve: You know, that’s a good question. I don’t know, ‘cause pretty much we suck. Guttermouth has lost their edge, sorry to say. It’s horrible isn’t it? DD(E): What do you mean by ‘Guttermouth has lost their edge’? Steve: What do I mean? We’re not cool anymore. DD(E): Is this in terms of the response or does it have anything to do with a loss of passion for what you do? Steve: Oh no. We give it our all, right Scott? All the shows have more people, they’re all going crazy and I don’t understand it…it sucks. DD(T): Is it because of the music change? Steve: Yeah, we keep making these great records and everyone likes them. It’s no good, no good at all. I don’t know, I can’t explain it. DD(E): Would you rather be really hated? Steve: We try and be loved, but its not working. Of course we want people to like us you know, I don’t want to be hated. DD(T): Do you even have a purpose for making music? Steve: I don’t know. We really don’t make music after this. This is probably our last record and from now on its going to be stand up comedy. Sort of like an act of entertainment sort of thing. I think we’ve run our course in terms if music. DD(E): What about the circus? Steve: Yeah, the circus is great too. We can always fall back in that, thank god. This is training for us later in life when we join the circus, travel around all the time. DD(E): What’s your favorite circus act? Steve: That’s a good question. I’d have to say, honestly, I’m more of a fan of the side shows. You know, Siamese twins, stuff like that. But I love the Ring Leader, he’s always entertaining. DD(E): Have you ever considered becoming a Ring Leader? Steve: Yeah, as a matter of fact I consider myself one. This is my training. Mark as well, he’s more of a clown and I’m the Ring Leader type person. That’s why I’m leading towards that profession. No follow up to that, eh! [some girls open trailer door, steve gets up.] Come in I’ve ruined the interview already. You guys got anything else? DD(T): Nope. Bye. Steve: Go and make me look bad.
