this is kinda long but id just thought id share. this is from a guy who posts on a chicago record label board... i read this and i read what he said over there and i thought id share. posted by bottom of the ninth
The actual proccess of voting is real easy (Well, outside of Florida it is anyway.), and it bugs me that so many people are to lazy to go do it. The hard part is actually choosing who to vote for. I don't really agree with voting simply based on party affiliation. Although I usually vote for Democrats or Greens, I am not entirely oppossed to voting for a Republican if she/he has a better track record on certain issues that are important to me. It's very rare that a Republican canidate does appeal to me, but I'd never punch my ballot for the opposing canidate just because they are Democrat. I believe it's important to look at each canidate on their own, and not just their party affiliation. At votesmart.com you can look up canidates track records on almost every issue.
The hardest situation one can face is when there is really no choice. For example, I vote in the 11th House district. Republican Jerry Weller is running for re-election. I don't like Jerry Weller. He's voted yes on alot of bills that I don't agree with. (As recently as this week, see H.R. 4691) His opponent is Democrat Keith S. Van Duyne. The problem is, I know nothing about Mr. Van Duyne. He has no web page, or even an e-mail address. He hasn't responded to any of the voter information surveys either. About the only information you can find on this guy is that he is indeed running for congress. Doesn't sound like somebody who has his shit together. I don't want to vote for Weller, but I'm not sure if I can, in good conscience, vote for somebody that I know nothing about. Those are my choices: Somebody that I don't like vs. somebody that I don't know anything about. Still not sure what I'm gonna do.
Really though, get out there and vote. Go to votesmart.com, see who's running in your district, check each canidate out, and make up your own mind. |
