I would like to express my extreme disapointment at this years 2002 Warped Tour date in Detroit. I have been attending the Warped Tour for about 5 years now and I have always had a great time. But this year I wish I had not have wasted my hard-earned 30 bucks. The lineup of bands was great, but the organization was terrible. The setup of the new venue they used pushed a whole lot of people into an itty-bitty space and then a lot of assholes felt the need to rush the crowd. This happened several times during the day and I saw a few people hurt as a result. I can take a rough crowd but there were a lot of young kids who couldn't.
My biggest complaint is the fact that every booth sold completely out of water by 4 in the afternoon. (Which was overpriced at $2.50 for a 20 oz bottle, but that was expected). I would think that at the very least an outdoor festival would have more than enough water for the fans on a hot summer day. I waited about a half hour to see if they would get more water in, but they didn't, so I left. Come to find out, they didn't get more water in until 6. I blame this on poor planning on the part of the organizers.
I don't know how well the other dates on the tour went and I can understand it being the last day and all that mistakes do happen but I hope to hell that I don't have such a shitty time next year. I am also dissapointed in the bands and the record labels involved in this tour. They all had at least some say in what was going on and if I was in a band and saw that my fans were having to beg members of the staff for water I would at least try to do something about it. In my experience the kind of bands involved in Warped Tour are the once who give a shit about their fans and I love them for it.
I'd also like to add that while I was watching the Planet Smashers some kid made some sort of complaint to the band. A guy got on stage then and said that he started Warped Tour in '95 and he said it was hard work putting together the tour and if any of us thought we could do it better, we could "Fuck off". Now I don't know exactly what the kid had said, but if I wanted to pay $30 to get crushed by a crowd outside of the pit, while dehydrating, and get told to fuck off by the guy who is getting my $30 bucks, well, wait a second, that should never happen, don't you think? |

| I stopped going after 98 cuz I could see the gay path it was taking, remember eminem was on the 99 bill? I heard that in vancouver they had a little pathway that is hour glass-shaped between the two main stages or whatever causing large jams. They've always done that, and I have always been lucky not to be pinner and get crushed. I wish some other punk label would start a good tour, then we could go to that untill IT turns gay. |
